I do two things. Soak the area with a warm wet cloth and then firmly but gently rub it off - that takes quite a while.
Or - use a flea comb - it's alot quicker, but with the teeny tiny ones, you have to be careful 'cause the combs are so big.
Now that you know - you can watch and do it more often so it's not such a big trial!
My toy poodle is white and his tears leave a red stain. Tink is black so no stain but there is crust. I flea comb her face every other day to get the crusties. She's a baby and her hair is short right now. so it's pretty easy.
