Introduce him to new people slowly, and don't push him to be friendly. Just be casual about it all. I think Yorkies are like babies......they grow through stages of liking everyone, then being fearful of everyone, and finally settling down to being more adult about people.
I also know that they have pretty good judgement about people. They don't just LOVE everybody. They have very discriminating personalities. You would think they would adore Yorkie lovers, but they expect everyone to be Yorkie lovers. They will often prefer someone totally suprising to you.....and then bring out the very best in that person.
The one thing I think is most important is to expose them to lots of people and other dogs. Good socialization is a must. |
