I am assuming the Parti gene is recessive. If neither of his parents were actually Parti-colored themselves, then both of his parents would need to be carriers of the Parti gene in order to produce a parti puppy. And it is quite possible for your puppy to be the only one in the litter to turn out to be a parti-colored yorkie. So, his parents would not have to be parti-colored in order for him to be parti-colored and he could be the only one in the litter to turn out parti-colored but the others would be carriers of the Parti-colored gene.
