Another suggestion - most fabric stores or sewing machine retailers will offer a beginners sewing class. One was offered free with the purchase of my last machine. Fortunately, I suffered thru this class in middle school and didn't require the classes offered.
Also, at Walmart in the fabric dept. there is a very good book on sewing. You might want to check it out, especially if you anticipate sewing very much.
