Bob,
Now, this is just my opinion. In their first 12 weeks they seem to learn much more from their momma than they do from us. They learn manners, they learn play, they learn dog language. They learn how to keep themselves clean. They learn it with a paw, a nip, a grr, a lick

. I've noticed that puppies who stay with their momma's & other pets in the home seem to be more social, less stressed and more independant when they go to their new homes. The only experience I have had has been getting a maltese pup @ 8 wks who was raised in a cage, a 5 wk old maltese yorkie mix rescue & lots of yorkie puppies growing up under foot. You can tell when a pup is socially ready to go to his new home. They are terrier's; bold, confident, tenacious & loving.
PS: or it's because we want to hold on to them as long as we can because they are so special.
