I've never had any problems.

I just wet the pill or rub butter over it - so it will be slick.

Then quickly (key word - quickly) - I open their mouth - put the pill in it - and with my finger, I push it as far back as possible (way back).

Then their gag reflex takes over and it's gone. I follow this quickly with a treat - a bite of chicken or something that helps make sure the pill went all the way down.

I don't even let my dog see me getting the pill - when it goes in their mouth, it's a total surprise to them - and it's down before they know it.
