It may be because it's sore AND it may have an infection. If you pull back the skin near the tip, do you notice any real quantity of discharge? A little can be normal...and yes, most times it has a slightly green hue to it.
Personally, I wouldn't worry unless you see some swelling or redness and warmer to the touch than normal. Yeah, you're gonna have to do that.
He may have simply rubbed it raw and you might want to consider switching Molly out for a different girl w/ more suitable (less friction) fabric...if there is to still be a "Molly" in his life that is.
