Just check them over again. It takes a while for them to get imbeded so by the sounds of it you probably found them all. There's really not much you could do to keep them off, but if you're going to walk them through that area again and make a habit of it, then I would get them a lymes shot and maybe put something like Frontline on them, that way it will hopefully keep them biting. There are certain areas that are full of ticks, more than others. We stopped at a rest area when traveling one time, and I had white sweat pants on and I noticed a tick, then another , I quickly checked my yorkie and he had about 5 that were on his back I got them all off and then did a complete search, didn't find any more. They are nasty little things.
