LOL!! I got a kick out of your post because I have tried to explain how giving birth to my second one without an epidural (by NO choice of my own) actually felt. Not to scare anyone so if you don't want to hear it, click off now! I described it as a fire-hot bowling ball with spikes coming out! And the only thing that saved me from "leaving my body" from the pain was that the nurse insisted that only one more push was needed to complete the job! After the first push when she crowned and I felt what I just described, I looked up at my husband and said (very seriously!), "I'm NOT doing that again." The look he gave the nurse was priceless.... like uh-oh, what now?? Luckily, she told the truth and all was over in a matter of seconds but I will NEVER forget that feeling.

I hope by now the original poster has gotten enough advise to decide whether an epidural is for her or not but I think the consensus is.... DO IT! And I think if our "experience stories" aren't enough, the nurse's post above says it very well too!
