Eons ago I wrote a post explaining how to use a target stick to teach a dog to walk on a leash. Please do a "search" for this post, I think it will help. I find that the target stick is one of the simplist and more stress-free ways of dealing with leash training problems.
I agree with the poster about using a leash and collar to start out instead of a harness. A harness is good with a dog who has learned to respect the leash and collar and knows how to walk properly on a leash or in the instance where you WANT your dog to pull such as in the case of tracking, or carting. With a young dog who does not understand leash walking, a harness is NOT a good idea because it can lead to a dog who does nothing but pull you every where. |
