I myself being a new yorkie owner and after reading tons of books did not expect to be such a commitment as it has become. I have had to set on an average at least 1 hour of my every day doing things for Ninna that I would have had time for mylself if she wasn't around (Feeding, cleaning eyes & ears, brushing hair and teeth, and one-on-one playing (these guys need it) And that is not counting all the other part of the day spent toguether!!
Just a thought....my best friend has a mini doberman for her 5 year old son who barely weights 5 pounds at 2 years old. She is so sweet, non-allergenic and makes a great baby-sitter for him. Even sleeps in his room and "protects" him at all times. She is super smart, is potty trained and extremely loving with kids and other pets and Zero-Maintenance. They are very cute toguether and Kaluah has made the "best" pet they can ever have!
A min-pin is a GREAT idea, too! My friend has one and they are small yet sturdy little dogs that are so easy to maintain. No brushing, grooming, baths, etc.
