Default Crate Training Question

I am trying to crate train my puppy, the problem is that I am nervous that he will get scared and hate his crate if I keep putting him in it and then leaving. I work from 8:30 until 4:30, but I go home for an hour from 12-1 so he gets let out.

Is it alright to crate him for those 3.5 hours I am gone? or should I put him in the bathroom with his crate?

Also at night I have just been leaving him in the bathroom with free reign (he has toys, paper, water, and his crate for sleeping), I am going to try to keep him in the crate during the night in my room so that he doesn't feel alone. I want him to sleep with me, but I don't want him to mess on the bed. I am wondering if this is better than just putting him in a room alone. I feel horrible when he barks and whines because he is just so young I am not sure he understands and it makes me so upset to have to listen to that.

Can someone give me some advice. I am going to try to follow that daytime schedule, but at 10 weeks is that to young to start putting him in his crate for that long?
