We had this problem with Mollie but managed to break her of the habit by teaching her the command "leave". Once we had that established we are able (even when she is off lead and some distance away) to say leave and she walks by it. Breath fresheners only work for as long as it is in the dogs mouth which with mine would be all of two seconds
