I believe flea eggs can live a long time dormant in carpets and such. You should be able to see them. Mine scratch their ears a lot, it drives me crazy. Their ears look fine, the vet has checked them and I paid $45 for ear wash, they pulled the hair out, said no ear mites. I am back to shampoo or some sort of allergy
