Mojo drinks out of both (he is never crated), but when we go out, he has a water bottle (not a bowl). He hasn't had a problem drinking from a bottle and everyone thinks it is sooo cute! I definitely like the water bottle better than a bowl! - but we do keep bowls of fresh water down all the time. Oh, when we are on the go, we also will order a small cup of water for him too....this helps, and keeps his beard out of the water!
