do you have a leave in conditioner for you....I have some leave in conditioner that I rub down them before I start to comb them before I wet them, if you will find the mat and hold it in your hand and work from the bottom up it will not pull their hair because your are holding it tight so they can't feel it as much...hold it tight in you fingers and brush or you can try to get the tangle out with you hands...
