I have one of each and my female is bossier but cuddlier. My male is a happy playful little guy but not too cuddley. I don't think it matters what sex you get. Just pick one you like. I think $500.00 for a male is pretty low. Especially in California. But maybe prices are coming down. When I was looking I couldn't find a male for less than 1000.00 and females started around 1200.00 (I paid 1400.00 for my female and only 700.00 for my male-he was rehomed when his original owner couldn't keep him). While annual vet bills aren't too bad on a healthy yorkie, you need to consider that spaying and neutering can cost several hundred as well so before you jump in with both feet consider saving up a bit more than the purchase price before you get your yorkie. Also, I wouldn't recommend getting a really small one as the possibility of illness and injury increases quite a bit. I have two around the 5.5-6.5 range and they are pretty tough.
