Heather,
I think you did a great job in caring for him. All breeders no matter what they have in their medicine chest and all their knowledge lose puppies - it's just a sad part of the birthing process. I believe vets regard losing a puppy as "normal" and don't believe heroic measures should be performed because there are probably other internal problems we can't see. Even all human babies unfortunately don't make it. Benebac is great and I use it, but it is no miracle product in an emergency situation - he was weak and even if you had been able to get the Benebac yesterday the result, in my opinion, would have been the same. It wouldn't have stimulated his appetite or given him the calories he needed. Benebac is good to have around though - I give it anytime they are on antibiotics, before vaccinations or any digestive upsets.
