European Yorkies (are not breed of Yorkie) -- but, I have heard this referenced to often. And - always, it has been in reference to larger Yorkies.
Yorkies did come from Europe, and originally, they were larger than they are now. 12 to 14 pound and larger Yorkies were very common in Europe at one time.
Downbreeding for a smaller sized dog has been done over a long period of time - and much moreso in the US than in other countries. The end result is that the Yorkie that we are used to now is a much smaller dog than it used to be.
However - larger Yorkies are still sometimes referred to as European Yorkies because they were larger (in Europe) many years ago. And, larger Yorkies are still more commonly found in Europe than they are here.

Of course, these are not a different breed or type of Yorkie - but,
"Teacup" usually refers to a small Yorkie, and
"European" usually refers to a larger Yorkier.
We know that a lot of people think these are different Yorkies - but they aren't. There is only one Yorkie.

****** My dog is about 12 or 13 pounds and his breeder told me that his mother (12 pounds) came from a line of European Yorkies - meaning that the Yorkies in my dog's lineage had not been bred down so much to be smaller. They came from a line that had continued to breed more with the older larger Yorkies.
A lot of people deliberately breed Yorkies to produce Yorkies that are small.
And, over the years, (believe it or not), there have been people who have deliberately bred to produce the larger Yorkies - (in the 12 to 14 pound range - or larger).
But - as we all know.....there is only one Yorkie.
So - if you ever hear the term, "European Yorkie" --- think "size." It is only referring to the size - a larger Yorkie.
