The biggest problem we have is with owners. Some people who are camping here and are also from Maine, stopped by to chat yesterday while walking their very lovely female lab (6 years old). The man kept insisting that she would be very gentle with Higgins and "we should just let them loose on the leash so they could get to know each other, since their tails are all wagging."
I told him in no uncertain terms that that was a no-no with me. Told him that my dog Pogo didn't like ANY other dogs (true) and couldn't be trusted, and that Higgins was young and "in your face" with other dogs and could be hurt accidently by the nicest dog. I wanted to tell him that a wagging tail does NOT mean the dog is happy. It is also a sign that the dog is poised to take action.
Geeeeeeez, I have motor mouth today........ |
I have Brandy a 103 lb lab and although she mother's Mia, and Mia can crawl all over her, take food from off her tongue, etc, the slightest wrong step could injure Mia (now 4 lb) That lab might be OK in a controlled setting, but I wouldn't take the chance either. My lab is a constant tail wagger and has knocked mia over just with her tail slightly wagging when it hit her.
It sounds like you are having such a wonderful time in FL! Soak up some sun for the rest of us, please!
