Growing up, my family had many Dobies and I had several myself. How old was Kaw-liga when he died? Have you contacted your breeder yet? Were there any guarantees on the puppy if it died? My Dobies did have skin issues (not anything life threatening-just sensitive) - and had problems with them having dandruff too. I wish the best for your family and hope you heal soon.
