It is my understanding that it is best to keep it on hand for urgent situations like FLdebra said. Your small breed dawgs are more prone to hyoglycemia up to 12 weeks of age. However, if they are going to be tiny as adults as well, they continue to be prone to it because since there isn't much to them, it doesn't take long for them to become dehydrated or hypoglycemic if they are sick or just not eating.
