Shelter seeks surgeon for cleft palate puppies
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

November 14, 2006, 5:08 PM EST

Magic and Merlin, puppies born with cleft palates that prevent them from feeding themselves, are in need of a miracle, a shelter said Tuesday.

The Little Shelter Animal Adoption Center made a public appeal for the donation of a veterinarian's services to correct the pups' deformity.

In the meantime, the shelter was keeping the two-week-old pups alive by feeding them through a tube every three hours.

Little Shelter spokesman Marge Stein said the mixed-breed puppies were rescued from a New York City shelter, which she declined to identify, when it became clear they would be euthanized.
