It seems to me like the vet is just trying to get some extra cash

Not only would I not leave him there for a urine sample, I would be looking into getting another vet, because now I would no longer trust them to give me advice in the best interest of the dog, rather than in their own best interest.

You're dealing with a live animal here not a car, it's one thing if a car repairman suggests extra work to your car, but when dealing with one of these babies, I would not mess around.

My vet is very practical and he makes suggestions and then tells me whether or not he thinks it's necessary. I can't see him putting the dog through any more than he has to.
