My second laptop and current one is an Acer we purchased at Circuit City and it has done wonderful....no complaints.
My only suggestion is to get the very most memory and speed you can afford. My parents have a Compaq Presario with a pentinum 4 - so it works as quickly as any desktop and has tons of memory....but is not lightweight!!! (But they needed the memory as they both work needed bigger programs for their work installed.)
