I know this is going to sound crazy but one day I was having a really hard time getting my patio door to close...and it really frustrated me and I started yelling in the air and was so angry. Well, I looked and saw my little guy all scared on the couch trying to hide...I felt so bad. I immediately stopped what I was doing and went over to him to reassure him I was not yelling at him and he did nothing wrong. He was fine after that and has been fine ever since. So, the next time he acts scared I would just reassure him everything is OK and see if it helps. Hopefully he will be his usual self again soon.
