He can make it through the night because he is sleeping. If he sleeps all day he can probably make it too - but that means some serious exercise in the morning and evening. Can you send him to doggie daycare once a week or so to wear him out? That might help.
Loki will never be able to hold it all day. Some dogs just can't. He's still completely house trained and crate trained, but if my husband isn't home during the day I arrange to come home or have someone let him out or I take him to the trainer's for daycare.
