Tatum got into something the other weekend while we were out of town that gave her whelps and made her itch like crazy. My vet told me to give her 12 ml of children's Benadryl. That sure seemed like a lot to me but the vet said that it is safe to give a dog 2 ml per pound every 8 hours. Since Tatum was having a pretty serious reaction to whatever she got into, he said it was a good idea to give her the maximum dosage (2 ml per lb. = 12 ml because she's 6 pounds). That seems like a lot because you definitely wouldn't give a 6 lb. baby that much but this is the dosage for dogs. I've heard of dogs that are on it for other allergies and they get a much smaller dosage just because it's a "maintenance" type thing for them.
It's still safest to call your vet and ask his opinion..... just wanted to tell you the recommended dosage I was told.
Good luck!
