I used to have a problem with Bender as far as getting upset about leaving goes. He would get very upset whenever someone was about to leave, so he'd block the doorway, bark, and pull at your pant leg if you tried to pass him. I actually had to trick him away in the beginning. I'd take a treat with me to the door and throw it towards the other side of the room. He would go chase after it and I'd have enough time to get out. I had to do this for about 2 weeks, and ever since then he waits on the other side of the room when I'm about to leave...waiting for his treat. It worked out really well and I wasn't even trying to train him, I was just on my last nerve/resort. But hey, it might just work for you guys! One thing I haven't figured out is how to make him leave me alone when I'm getting off the bed. He doesn't bite, but he gets very upset...Bender could easily spend the entire day in bed (and has, when I've been sick). He's always so sad to start his day, which I guess is oh so stressful, since he sits on the couch and watches tv all day.
