And in regards to the earlier post about ignoring bad behaviours and only praising the good ones, I cannot agree w/ that at all.
Just like children, I believe that they should have concequences that are proportionate to their actions. And praise just the same. You must be fair.
If handled properly w/ a knowledgeable trainer, there is NO reason to not consider using a leash and collar w/o treats to train your dog. The results in my experience are quick, conciese and fabulous. And a toy IS used after a release command is given.
Some people seem to think that it's all correction and no praise-how awful. "They" must've just had a bad training experience, bravo for not continuing THAT. HOWEVER, if done properly, it is quite effective for ANY breed of dog of ANY size and age (4 months +).
