My pup, when I got him at 2 months, had a lot of coat... Thick and fluffy, seemed tangled all the time, also very soft some places - paws and chest ie, and matted terribly. Now he's almost 5.5 months and his adult coat has been growig in quickly but, luckily, is sooo much different from his puppy frizz. It did lose a lot of volume, stayed soft and fine but has a silk sheen to it already and, if brushed daily, matt free. So, I say, there's hope! Pepper's fur at 2-3 months and now is like night and day, he needed a haircut at little over 3 months thou, sometimes it's best to start with a short hair - it's not worth to hang on to long coat, esp with a matted puppy.... good luck
