The normal cycle is 3 weeks long.
The 1st week and last week are light the middle week is heavy.
But the 1st time should be hardly anything.
Petco and Petsmart as well as other Pet stores have panties with velcro fasteners for them.
I use Vons pantyliners instead of buying the pads at the stores, there cheaper.
