My new Yorkie arrived with "seed" ticks. Some were quite large and they were all removed by the vet. I never had any ticks on my other dogs. We have wild life in my area, last year it was baby bears and a coyote (in NJ), so my dogs do not roam freely in the fenced in yard. The deer are in abundance since we are near a reservation and water reserve. It's a big issue here about hunting to thin out the herd. I see several large dogs at the vets being treated for lymes disease. They look sad and emaciated. I have a friend with lymes disease and it's not fun.
Since Tigger shows no symptoms and you think she had the ticks for a while, chances are they aren't deer ticks. Poor baby, must have felt so uncomfortable. I check my dogs all the time. They can get ticks just walking them in the street (no sidewalks here) if there is tall grass next to the curb.
