I am not sure if it is for training or not, it is mainly for preventing an accident. However, I did train my boys by using a bellyband. First of all, they woulden't hold it for anything. But when I put the bellybands on them, they learned to hold it because they hated being wet. So now they can sleep at night with no worries of them having an accident from them not wanting to hold it. I also started off by putting the bellybands on them all the time. Then I left them off for a whole day and if they had an accident, they wore the bellybands for the rest of the day, only taking them off to relieve themselves, and they would wear them the next day too. So after repeating this several times they learned that if they don't have an accident, they don't get the bellyband on them, they are free of the bellyband. If they have an accident, we start over and they get to wear the bellyband.
As you can guess, they don't like wearing the bellybands, the don't try to get them off or anything, they just don't like it and prefer not to have it on. So now, I don't even need to use a bellyband, they learned that if they are good and don't have an accident then they don't have to wear that bellyband that they hate to wear. They haven't had a bellyband on for a long time now. I do of course make them wear it when we go over to someone else's house, I don't want any chance of them having an accident of feeling the need to mark their terriortory.
So I guess it can be used as a training tool in this aspect, it sure worked wonders for my boys and trained them. |
