I asked my vet about licking it when I picked her up and she said it was fine for her to lick it, but make sure she wasn't trying to pull her staples out when she licked it. It has been almost a week, and all her staples are still in and it is not infected, but she (and Hobbs both) have been licking it ever since I picked her up.
