This is exactly why I don't take Gabby and Gage with me unless I'm headed up to the deer camp for the week-end or to my in-laws. And IF I have to run pick up one of the boys somewhere, I MAY take Gage with me - he is the "calmer" of the 2 in the car and will stay where put whereas Gabby likes to "roam" (gosh, I need a car seat for her!!).
Oh, and V---girl, I can SO relate to the gas station. If I have to get gas either before heading to the deer camp or when I get back, Gabby will sit on the backseat and whine until I get back in the car and crank it up. I mean, it's not like she can't see me - I'm right there!!! But to hear her, you'd think I had abandoned her forever!
