My Shorkie Ruby is 15 lbs, so when looking at crates we found 10lb or less one and a 25lb or less one....of course we got the 25lb one, so she does have a little extra room...she also curls up in the back (laying widthwise) as does your baby. She has never soiled her crate...I just think they like the sides of the crate next to them so they feel more secure and snuggly
