I have had a chi for about 4 years. They are the best at making your hair straight. I don't think the newer models have such a problem with the plates falling out. I did have one that the plates came out of, but mine was still under the 1 year waranty and it was replaced for free. Make sure that if you do get any kind of straightner not to wrap the cord around it or it may cause the cord to short out.
