My Jack Russell is the original "boing, boing" dog -- up and down like a spring, running and jumping with no regard for safety. She winds up limping at least once a week. We first took her to the vet for these episodes, sometimes she would stop limping at the vet's office and we would feel foolish -- She really was limping on it before! Now we just gently squeeze along her paw and leg. As long as she does not react violently as if it hurts a great deal, we let her go for a day. So far it has always gone away. I think she just bruises herself, maybe even jams a joint occasionally. But nothing slows her down for long. We do have baby motrin that we can give her to help with the ache. That would be a good question for your vet -- ask how much you could give your little one if something like this happens. Hope all is well by morning!
