The word "mutt" is a derogatory term - but most especially to those people who would prefer to own only purebred dogs.

To less affected people and especially those who have owned mixed breeds most of thier lives, the term "mutt" is a wonderful word - it's a word that best describes the endearing qualities of those friends that have walked beside them through life.

The word "mutt" can be used in many different ways. I, personally, only use it to complement my dogs. When I say, "Come here you little mutt," I am saying "I love you - come here and be with me." I'm the one who always calls my Yorkie a little Walt Disney mutt --and, because he is so cute and that's what he looks like to me.....a scruffy darling little mutt.

So - obviously - the term "mutt" can be used in many different ways....
