Though I've never tried it, I've researched it and I think there's some definite benefit to raw diets. It's more biologically natural for a dog. Some people refer to it as BARF - Biologically Appropriate Raw Feeding. And by the way - dogs aren't susceptible to salmonella and such the way humans are, so don't worry about that. Think of what dogs ate in the wild! Cooking and processing kills most of the good enzymes found in raw meats and vegetables. So I'd say if you want to try it, go ahead, but introduce it slowly by mixing raw meat with kibble, until you're at 100% raw. There are many good books on the market with more information about how to prepare your dog's meal from scratch. It's actually much less expensive than kibble in the end, if you're willing to dedicate time to preparing and freezing your baby's meals ahead of time.
I'm going to start to introduce my little guy to raw when he's a year old. |
