A couple of things you mihgt try if you aren't already doing it. Is to feed fat the same times every day and no free feeding. then watch for a pattern as to how soon after eating he poops.
My guys are usually pretty predictable. I give them canned food fin the morning and in the evening, and shortly afterwards they poop.
If you have a fenced area you might also try a doggie door.

I'm in the process of figuring out his timelength from eating to when he poops right now. But so far it seems mixed, like once it was 1hour, then 3hours. He's very random.
