To us it seems logical that if they know where to pee, they should know to poop there also. to a dog they are two separate functions.
A couple of things you mihgt try if you aren't already doing it. Is to feed fat the same times every day and no free feeding. then watch for a pattern as to how soon after eating he poops.
My guys are usually pretty predictable. I give them canned food fin the morning and in the evening, and shortly afterwards they poop.
If you have a fenced area you might also try a doggie door.
