Try being persistent? I think mine learn to put up with it. I usually slip them on when he is tired after playing and starts to nap. He doesn't chew them off but he sort of stand there for a while and started walking like he is a spaceman and his legs are spreading out like a spider
He is getting more and more comfortable with them.
