Isn't it funny how everyone's doctor has a different opinion? Scares me that it's not consistent. Each of us too seems to have different results with our choices.
I have used pills for many many years with the exception of pregnancy and nursing. As a kid I had heavy flows with major cramps which made me bedridden for the first day. The pill helped regulate the flow with minimal cramps. Now my periods don't start until about 3 or 4 days into the "fake pills" and last maybe 2 or 3 days with little flow. I have skipped my period by moving into the next pack for vacations and never had a problem. As for the problems conceiving after... we'll I've got 2 beautiful children just from thinking about having sex LOL fertile myrtle they say. My 2nd one was even conceived while using 2 forms of birth control. So I would have to say for me personally, skipping periods didn't affect anything.
