I do not exhibit or breed, but I doubt this is the case...When a dog steps into that show ring they are not being judged just for looks conforming to the breed standard but also temperment, and in a sense showmanship. A dog will not develop this if iti s drugged and caged all the time. I think there are many other things that exhibitors do to preserve the show coats such as wrapping them in rags, and using special grooming products, but it seems to me most show dogs I have met have been active and normal in their daily lives. |
