Duke is one and half years old, is neutered, and does not hump (thank goodness).

Duke does mark inside the house, but he did mark outside when I first brought him home.

I don't know whether boys are harder to potty train than girls or not, because I have always had male dogs.

As far as humping being a phase they go through, I think that it depends on each puppy. A friend of mine has a Boston Terrier that is 9 years old, and he humps all of the time. I don't like to go and visit her because he will immediately try to latch onto my leg. Not only does he hump legs, but he also humps the throw pillows on her couch and love seat.
