I was driving with my boyfriend a few days ago and we saw a petstore that I've never been to. I always love looking at new petstores because I am always hoping to find something new, cute, original to buy my babies.
Well, we walked in and almost immediately I saw that they had two puppies! They were yorkie/poodle and yorkie/schnauzer. I asked how much they were and the guy said they were $600, but that day they were $450. I know, fishy right? He let me hold and play with them. I would never get puppies from a pet store because I know that it is very likely that they came from puppy mills and I really don't want to support that. But they were so cute and so sweet.
I wanted to cry when I left there because I just imagined them coming from a puppy mill to the store, having to stay alone there at night when they should be at home and warm with a family, and then who knows who will buy them...I think having puppies in pet stores causes people to buy on a whim because they see a cute puppy and they decide to buy without thinking it through first (can they afford it, can they provide enough time, are they willing to train it, etc.) which doesn't always result in the best home.
Well, my question is, does anyone else ever want to buy these pet store puppies to give them the life they deserve? I know I could give them such a good life. I would pamper them the way they deserve and they would never go without. But then, I am totally against puppy mills and know I would be supporting them if I bought one. It's just so sad...
Please tell me I did the right thing by not buying them...
