We use one on our one of big dogs. We used to use it more so than now. We lived in a neighborhood and got a complaint about it. Now we live in the country and it doesn't matter as much (well we haven't had any complaints yet, I don't know if they could actually file one out here or not). It is a shock one and it works. It beeps before it shocks him and really anytime he has it one he just doesn't bark so he doesn't get shocked (although he did when he was learning what it was). I know we all felt really bad having to do it though.
My aunt used the citronella ones and I think one that makes that high pitch noise on her two medium-sized dogs. I think she switched from the high pitch noise because there were two of them and the other would be "punished" when it wasn't barking. I think she liked the citronella ones.
I heard that if you teach them to speak then its easier to teach them not to speak/bark. Maybe they then know what barking is and when you tell them "no speak" they then know what you are telling them not to do, but I don't know if this is true or not. I also heard that once you teach them to speak that they won't bark as much b/c they know there's a time to bark, again don't know if this is true either, but its worth a shot.
