I understand your comparison and I agree that you shouldn't let your dog behave badly, however children understand reasoning and dogs do not. Dogs don't know how to manipulate, they don't feel guilt, they don't even understand our version of right from wrong. In a dog's mind they are always justified in their actions. They don't have higher reasoning skills. We can only teach them what is allowed and what is not allowed. And by being the leader, you control the resources and set the expectations. I don't believe they need to "submit" to us to follow the rules. |
I can appreciate where you are coming from and while I don't 100% agree- I do respect your point of view!! I hope you don't think I am mean to my girl because nothing could be farther from the truth- trust me- I love her more than anything!! I love this forum and think it is so important that we all respect each other- and know that it isn't always necessary to agree completely-or even at all for that matter!! Besides.. it was because of YOU that I finally broke down and trained Lex to go potty outside (which we are doing FANTASTIC with, by the way!!)
